Counterfeit Coins Struck on Nails on eBay

Posted by JonSullivan on Apr 18th 2016

Beware of the many fake coins struck on nails on eBay. They came out after a dime on a nail recently sold for over $40,000 at auction, and these counterfeiters are trying to rip off collectors with these fakes.

Genuine examples will always be certified by PCGS or NGC--none of the counterfeits will be. The coins are coming out of Asia, and are found on many different denominations of U.S. coins, from mercury dimes to cents to quarters. Counterfeitors are selling them, typically, for a few hundred dollars on eBay. The odds of a genuine coin struck on a nail showing up for sale uncertified are basically 0, so don't be fooled.

Below are some images of a fake which recently showed up on eBay.
