NGC 1c 196X Lincoln Cent Counterbrockage MS-64 Brown

SOLD

Counterbrockage obverse, with a greatly enlarged portrait of Lincoln, date and lettering. The 196 of the date shows. Scarce.

Counterbrockages occur when a planchet is struck on top of an already struck coin, it then sticks to the obverse die and becomes a die cap, and then the brockage making cent beneath it is ejected from the striking chamber. Then that die cap begins to strike incoming planchets. The coins struck will be counterbrockages, with a faint obverse design, which will be "raised" and will be somewhat vague and spilling over the coin's rim.
