NGC 1c Lincoln Cent Obverse Counterbrockage MS-63 Brown

Obverse counterbrockage, with a huge, enlarged portrait of Lincoln as well as the date and lettering. The design appears to be from the 1970's.

Counterbrockages occur when a planchet is struck on top of an already struck coin, it then sticks to the obverse die and becomes a die cap, and then the brockage making cent beneath it is ejected from the striking chamber. Then that die cap begins to strike incoming planchets. The coins struck will be counterbrockages, with a faint obverse design, which will be "raised" and will be somewhat vague and spilling over the coin's rim.
