This is a Franklin half dollar which is a split planchet before strike, with the coin showing the split side on the coin's reverse, and the smooth side on the obverse. An extremely rare error type on Franklin halves, and the only example we've ever handled. The coin is a perfect example of the error type, and the rough split side shows evenly across the reverse (some so-called split planchets are only partial split planchets.) This coin weighs 7.4 grams, whereas a normal 50c weighs 12.5 grams. This is about half the weight then of a normal planchet. A rare opportunity to by an extremely rare coin.
NGC did not grade the coin, but we grade it MS-65 with original, multi-colored toning.
