Transitional off-metal 1964 Kennedy half struck on a clad Washington quarter blank. The error occurred when a planchet intended for striking into 1965 quarters was into a press striking 1964 halves and struck. The U.S. switch from silver to clad coins in 1965, and so to have a coin with a 1964 date but struck on a clad planchet is a very unlikely think to have happen, and it is, since only a very small number of 1964 halves on clad quarter planchets are known. Transitional off-metals are highly sought after and both rare and valuable. This coin is a beautiful example of this rare combination.
