Wrong planchet error, struck on a Columbia 5 Centavos Planchet, with a weight of 3.0 grams and nickel metal. The coin is not attributed by NGC as being on this countries planchets, but there is no question it is.
The Columbian planchet was produced by the Scovill Manufacturing Company for that country in 1902, but at the same time it was also producing v-nickel planchets for the Philadelphia Mint. This Columbian planchet doubtless was accidentally mixed into the v-nickel planchets being sent to Philadelphia, which is how it ended up getting struck by v-nickel dies. A scarce wrong planchet error.
