PCGS 1c Lincoln Cent Counterbrockage MS-64 BN

SOLD

Copper Lincoln cent with a counterbrockage obverse. The obverse design is raised and enlarged, and is a mid-stage counterbrockage. Nice example overall, and good overall eye-appeal.

Counterbrockages occur when a planchet is struck on top of an already struck coin, it then sticks to the obverse die and becomes a die cap, and then the brockage making cent beneath it is ejected from the striking chamber. Then that die cap begins to strike incoming planchets. The coins struck will be counterbrockages, with a faint obverse design, which will be "raised" and will be somewhat vague and spilling over the coin's rim.
